Illustration Friday time: Electricity.
Time for Rain: Electric Storm
This week was tough for me. I like to use the prompts to really jump start a fun piece of art. All I kept seeing was outlets and wires in my head. Then I started thinking of ole Benny Franklin (who btw, I am no longer a fan of since I saw the John Adams Series on HBO!) and that led me to think of electrical storms. I once heard that many animals don't like storms, not because of the noise but because of the build-ups of static electricty in the air--SHOCKING.
This piece was also a couple experiments in one. First, I pulled out my masking fluid to create the lightening and THEN painted it. I wasn't sure it would come off under all that acrylic paint. The second was making a "DARK" piece. Of course I had to start with my bright signature blues and greens but then I darkened them all up.
Today is rainy and tomorrow will be too. Seems a fitting piect to do.
Stay dry!

Really great work! fantastic!
very well done !!
I think it's a lovely piece and you did a great job with the lightning effects and keeping your bright signature colors.
Hi Jenn
Again, another excellent collage. The textures are fabulous. Well done.
Thanks Rui, Nancy, Tess and Neil!
I always like to see illustrations with text incorporated, even if it is merely dealing with the texture of the piece. Now I have to go back and read and see if there is a hidden agenda in the text...
I like using text too. All my "art" artwork usually has either found or handwritten text because I like my work to tell a story. It's never a coherent story, more like the game of "telephone". I tell one idea to another idea and that idea tells another idea--and so on. It amuses me. Its also a lot like a game show my little ones caught on the game show network (did you know there was a 24/7 game show channel) I can't remember the name of the show but you're given the first and last word of a series of words and you have to make the connection. For example: Butter + Fly, Fly + Over, Over + Coat, Coat + Tails.
In this piece the text used for the house is gaelic and the house is fashioned after a family cottage in Ireland. the other text goes with the picture but when deciding where this storm was happening, often-rainy-ireland seemed as good a place as any. Plus, I don't have access to any family cottages in Seattle.
